Hello. My name is Louise.
I first discovered the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog when I was looking for a young dog (not a puppy) that would be good company and a reasonable size, so it would be able to keep up with me in the outdoors, living an active lifestyle. I found a dog that looked like it would fit the bill at a local dog rescue.
He was an eighteen-month-old blue Stumpy I renamed Bob.
Thanks to Bob, I fell in love with the breed and learned that they are the original Australian breed of dog, affectionately known as Stumpies, and sadly, that they are rare. I am now passionate about working to help preserve this breed and ensure it does not die out. With support from like-minded Stumpy people, I seek to breed better purebred dogs that are healthy, fit for purpose companions and sports dogs, with stable temperaments that meet the breed standard.
Since starting this journey with my unregistered, purebred rescue Stumpy, Bob, I have learned a huge amount, not just about the breed history, but the importance of health testing, DNA testing and the appropriate training and enrichment needed for these dogs. I will never be a volume breeder, but rather a breeder that makes careful breeding decisions, for the betterment of the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog.
We live in sunny Queensland and the dogs live as part of the family, on our rural 1-acre block and they spend all their time during the day with us. When we travel on holiday, they come with us and are very good travellers and very sociable.
Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dogs are a working breed that needs to have a job. As we do not own any livestock, I ensure the dogs are kept physically and mentally active by training them for a variety of dog sports as well as attending occasional conformation shows. The dogs have Conformation championship titles as well as several dog sports titles each. They have balanced temperaments, are social, they are crate trained, leash trained, obedience trained and are loyal companions.
Socialisation and enrichment are cornerstones of our breeding program. We provide a loving and nurturing environment for our puppies, exposing them to various stimuli, utilising “Puppy Culture” protocols, thus ensuring they grow into well-rounded and confident dogs. Our commitment to early socialisation sets the foundation for happy and adaptable puppies. Placing our puppies in responsible homes is of utmost importance to us. We want to ensure that our puppies find loving, caring, and suitable forever homes. Through comprehensive screenings and interviews, we strive to match each puppy with the right family. Our support doesn’t end after you take your puppy home – we are here for you throughout their life’s journey, providing guidance and support whenever you need it.
To ensure fit healthy dogs, I choose to raw feed them following Biologically and Appropriate Raw Food (BARF) principles and utilise input from a canine nutritionist, who provides a variety of recipes for homemade, balanced, and nutritious foods that also provide enrichment for our dogs.
